What the press representative of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator said to CYPE

The supply of electricity is expected to be sufficient, despite the high demand, as Hara Kousiappa, the Press Representative of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSMO) told KYPE.

As she said, today the maximum demand is expected to fluctuate around 1,150 MB during the midday hours, i.e. 14.00-16.00.

There will be a contribution from photovoltaic systems of around 500 MB during the time of maximum production. Wind production is expected to range around 5-10MB. It is expected, he added, that RES will cover around 48% of the demand during the time of their maximum production.

Yesterday peak demand was recorded at 15:45 pm at 1,104 MB.

The highest demand for this year so far was recorded on June 14th at 1,217 MB at 16:00, very close to the peak of all years that was on July 24, 2023 at 1,243MB.

“We have high demand all this time because the temperature has dropped a little these days but there has been a prolonged heat wave,” he said. He added that from tomorrow, when higher temperatures are expected, the demand is expected to increase even more. in the evening hours covered by conventional production alone is lower, around 950-1,000MB during peak hours.

“So there is also a reserve. There is also a small contribution from wind farms around 10-30 MB for today,” he said.

He added that there is not expected to be any problem due to increased demand.
