The electricity supply is expected to be sufficient, despite the high demand, as Hara Kousiappa, the Press Representative of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSMO), told KYPE.

As she said, today the maximum demand is expected to be around 1,150 MB during the midday hours, i.e. 14.00-16.00.

There will be a contribution from photovoltaic systems of around 500 MB during the time of peak production. Wind production is expected to range around 5-10MB. It is expected, he added, that the RES will cover around 48% of the demand during the time of their maximum production.

Yesterday the maximum demand was recorded at 15:45 in the afternoon and amounted to 1,104 MB.

This year's highest demand so far was recorded on June 14, at 1,217MB at 4pm, very close to the all-year high of July 24, 2023 at 1,243MB.

“We have a high demand all this time because the temperature has dropped a little these days but there has been a prolonged heat wave,” he said. He added that from tomorrow, when higher temperatures are expected, the demand is expected to increase even more. in the evening hours which is covered by conventional generation alone is lower, around 950-1,000MB during evening peak hours.

“So there is also a reserve. There is also a small contribution from wind farms around 10-30MB for today,” he said.

He added that there is not expected to be any problem due to increased demand.
