New urban projects with a total cost of € 165 million that will boost the economy were decided by the Council of Ministers for the new year, which will be promoted through the Ministry of Interior and the Department of Urban Planning. The Minister of Interior, Mr. Nikos Nouris, submitted the list of projects to be launched within 2022 before the Finance Committee of the Parliament for information purposes. “P” has secured and is publishing the list of works.
Nicosia
- Construction of Alexandroupolis Avenue in Strovolos at a cost of € 12 million. The start of the project is scheduled for 12/2022 and will be completed on 12/2024.
- Argyroupoleos, Ippokratous, Tseriou avenues in Lakatamia and Strovolos with a cost of € 22 million. Start of the project on 6/2022 and completion on 12/2024.
- Improvement of the road Pano and Kato Defteras to Pediaios with a cost of € 3.8 million. Start of the project on 6/2022 and completion on 6/2024.
- Improvement of the main road of the Municipality of Tseri at a cost of € 6 million. Start 3/2022 and completion 3/2024.
- Southern extension of Glafkos Clerides Avenue (former Academy Avenue) in the Municipality of Aglantzia at a cost of € 2.5 million. Start 6/2022 and completion 6/2024.
- Expansion / improvement of Agios Hilarion and Famagusta avenues in Nicosia and Aglantzia at a cost of € 6.5 million. Start 9/2022 and completion 12/2024.
- Construction of a bicycle road that will connect Aglantzia with Geri at a cost of € 1.5 million. Start 6/2022 and completion 6/2023.
- Pediaio plan – pedestrian – bicycle road in Lakatamia with a cost of € 2 million. Start 9/2022 and completion 7/2022.
- Improvement of Grigoris Afxentiou Avenue in Agios Dometios with a cost of € 3.6 million. Start 12/2022 and completion 12/2024.
- Renovation of a traditional core of Agioi Trimithia at a cost of € 2.3 million. Start 10/2022 and completion 1/2024.
- Railway linear park in Kokkinotrimithia with a cost of € 1.75 million. Start 11/2022 and completion 4/2024.
Limassol
- Improvement of Christaki Kranou Street in Germasogeia with the construction of a roundabout despite the contribution with Daidalidon Street at a cost of € 400,000. Beginning early 2022 and completion early 2023.
- Expansion / improvement of Makarios C 'Avenue in Ypsonas (phase B') at a cost of € 1.5 million. Starting at the end of 2022 and completion one year later.
- Coastal sidewalk Germasogeia – Agios Athanasios (phase AD) with a cost of € 3.5 million. Start 12/2022 and completion 1/2025.
- Reconstruction / configuration of the historic center of Agia Fyla at a cost of € 3.4 million Starting 1/2022 and completion 7/2023.
Paphos
- Coastal pedestrian street in Pegeia with a cost of € 2.5 million. Start 1/2022 and completion 3/2023.
- Renovation of the core / shopping center of the city of Chrysochous at a cost of € 2 million. Start 9/2022.
- Renovation of a traditional core of Geroskipou at a cost of € 2 million. Start 5/2022.
- Renovation of the core and the central square of Kouklia at a cost of € 2 million. Start 6/2022.
Larnaca
- Configuration of the central square of Athienou with a cost of € 3.5 million. Start 10/2022 and completion 6/2024.
- Renovation of a traditional core of Tersefanos at a cost of € 1.3 million. Start 6/2022 and completion 12/2023.
- Expansion / improvement of the Larnaca – Dhekelia coastal road (phase DG) at a cost of € 20 million Starting 6/2022 and completion 9/2025.
- Configuration of a coastal sidewalk in Pervolia (phase B ') at a cost of € 2.5 million. Start 11/2022.
Free Famagusta
- Improvement of Deryneia – Sotira road at a cost of € 13 million. Start 1/2022 and completion 2/2024.
- Improvement of the main road Avgoros – Karyon Avenue (phase B ') at a cost of € 4 million. Start 10/2022 and completion 10/2024.
- Improvement of Pernera Avenue in Protaras and specifically construction of two square spaces at a cost of € 300,000. Start 2/2022 and finish 6/2023.
- Configuration of an urban multifunctional park in Ayia Napa at a cost of € 3.5 million. Start 2/2022 and completion 6/2023.
- Renovation of the historic center in the area of the community of Xylofagos at a cost of € 2.7 million. Start 10/2022 and completion 4/2024.
- Formation of a central square and pedestrianization of the Paralimni core with a cost of € 5 million. Start 9/2022 and completion 5/2024.

The dormitories
It should be noted that the budget of the Department of Urban Planning for the year 2022 includes an amount of € 102,000, which is intended to cover, mainly, the communication strategy actions, to convince owners in Old Nicosia to renovate their abandoned buildings or apartments. in order to turn them into dormitories. The sponsorship plan will be covered by European funds and specifically by the Recovery and Resilience Fund, from which the Republic of Cyprus will raise resources of € 1.2 billion.
The investment for the conversion of buildings into dormitories / rooms envisages the provision of incentives in the form of government sponsorship to natural and legal persons, in order to carry out renovation of existing old or abandoned buildings, with their simultaneous energy upgrade and conversion into dormitories / , in order to rent to students for a given time, at a low pre-determined rent.
