Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The Ministry of Health announces that today, July 5, 2021:

One person has died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 380.

– 88 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 23 are in serious condition.

– A total of 43,678 disease detection tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

787 (positivity rate: 1.80%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests (antigen rapid test), bringing the total number of cases to 78,809 .

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

One person who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 is:

– A 69-year-old woman who ended up at the American Medical Center after being transferred from the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital. The patient was no longer an active COVID-19 case (21 days had passed since an incident was considered active), hence she was transferred to a private hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 380, of which:

254 men (67%), and

– 126 women (33%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77.3 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 88 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 23 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 23 patients in serious condition, nine are intubated, four are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 10 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 43,678 diagnoses made today, 6,613 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 37,065 by the antigen rapid test, 787 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 28 cases from 501 samples received through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 6 cases from 3,397 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 99 cases from 2,364 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 37 cases from 344 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 7 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 32 cases from 621 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 583 cases from 36,444 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.
