“Our country and our society are facing hard and dangerous impasses which must be addressed. Unfortunately, however, the government of DISY, which has ruled the country for nine years, has proved that not only is it incapable of dealing with the impasses, but it is the one that causes the most. “The DISY government is part of the problems and can not solve them”, he said characteristically.
The situation goes no further! DISY must leave power. And he will leave with our work. With our hard work, he said addressing the EDONites and referred to a series of issues that make change necessary.
“Entanglement and corruption have taken off since DISY became a government. “The name of Cyprus is being spread internationally and has become synonymous with money laundering and a refuge for fraudsters.” Mr. Stefanou spoke about social and economic insecurity faced by tens of thousands of our fellow citizens, and especially many young people, a phenomenon “that for many years did not exist en masse in Cyprus.”
Referring to the “low unemployment rate”, for which “the government is struggling”, the General Secretary of AKEL noted that the young people of Cyprus, most of the graduates, work for 700 and 800 euros per month when they need so much more to rent an apartment. Many of the jobs are with minimal rights and without protection. Getting a home became a distant dream. “Creating a family comes under the unbearable pressure of an inadequate social policy that does not provide the necessary structures and the necessary support.”

The worst legacy left by their ten-year transition from the government of this place is their handling of the Cyprus issue, stressed Mr. Stefanou. “The Cyprus issue is in a quagmire. Worse still, the final divide is on the doorstep. Turkey, acquitted of the impasse by the international community, is violating any notion of law and blatantly violates relevant UN resolutions. It takes advantage of the barren passage of time, causing new occupations on land and at sea. “And when all this happened, the rulers expressed confidence that these were communication tricks of the occupying power, cultivating illusions about the alleged fortification of the EEZ by the multilateral meetings and the imposition of sanctions by Europe that would hurt Turkey.”
