The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, is paying an official visit to Cyprus today and tomorrow, at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis.
According to the program of her visit, Mrs. Zurabishvili will go to the Presidential Palace in the morning, where he will be officially welcomed at 11 by the President of the Republic. The two Presidents will have a private meeting and will then attend extended talks between the delegations of the two countries, while making statements to the media. During the meeting, the two Presidents will also be awarded medals on both sides.
The Government Spokesman, Marios Pelekanos, stated in a written statement that the developments in the Cyprus issue, the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Georgia will be among the issues that will concern the meeting of the two Presidents. According to Mr. Pelekanos, President Anastasiadis will brief his Georgian counterpart on the challenges of the Turkish side in the enclosed city of Famagusta and in the Cypriot EEZ, as well as on its unacceptable demands regarding the framework for a solution to the Cyprus problem.
According to the Government Spokesman, President Zurabishvili will have a one-on-one meeting with the President of the Republic, followed by extended talks between the delegations of the two countries, during which bilateral relations and ways of strengthening them will be discussed, as well as common issues. such as EU-Georgia relations, the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, ongoing efforts to address the effects of the pandemic and regional developments.
Mr. Pelekanos noted that “the President of the Republic will have the opportunity to inform the President of Georgia about the unacceptable challenges of the Turkish and Turkish Cypriot side in the enclosed city of Famagusta, but also in the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus, while of course he will also inform about the unacceptable claims they make regarding the framework for a solution to the Cyprus problem “.
As announced, the President of Georgia will then visit the House of Representatives, while in the afternoon he will have a meeting with the Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II, and then will go to the Embassy of Georgia where he will meet with members of the Georgian community in Cyprus.
At 8 pm, the President of Georgia will attend an official dinner hosted in her honor by President Anastasiadis, at the Presidential Palace.
Tomorrow, November 10, the Georgian President will visit the Georgian Monastery in Gialia and then leave Cyprus.
