The Larnaca District Court today renewed for another six days the detention order of three people aged 44, 23 and 19, to facilitate the police investigation into the investigated murder case of Andreas Evangelos, 53, committed last December in Larnaca.

Specifically, the three people aged 44, 23 and 19 are suspected of conspiracy to commit murder, premeditated murder, participation in a criminal organization, participation and acceptance of crimes, illegal possession and transfer of a firearm and illegal possession and transfer of explosives.

The offenses are said to have been committed between 1/12/2021 to 3/2/2022 in the city and province of Larnaca.

The proceedings before the Court were not conducted in camera, however, due to the Law on Insecurity and for security reasons, the entrance to the press room was not allowed.
There was a large police force both inside the courtroom and in the Courtroom, several members of which wore bulletproof vests.

Information from KYPE states that the Police had initially requested a renewal of the detention of the suspects for eight days, however their lawyers objected and finally the Court issued an order for their six-day detention.

According to the same information, the Police has not completed the evaluation of the large investigative material, telecommunication data of the suspects are being evaluated, while a fourth person is also wanted for the case.

It is noted that according to an announcement by the Communication Office of the Police Headquarters “the operation to locate and arrest the suspects was carried out around 11 pm on Thursday, February 3 with the participation of members of TAE, OPE and YKAN Larnaca, members of the Crime Department, , and members of MMAD. The operation was completed shortly after midnight, while searches followed at the homes, premises and vehicles of the arrested “.

During the investigations, “items were identified and received which are being evaluated by investigators of the Larnaca TAE. During the police operation, three people aged 44, 23 and 19 were arrested for offenses related to conspiracy to commit murder, premeditated murder, participation in a criminal organization, participation and acceptance of committing crimes, illegal possession and transfer of a firearm and illegal possession and transport of explosives “.

The three suspects were taken into custody and on February 5 were brought before the Larnaca District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against them.

It is recalled that “the murder of 53-year-old Andreas Evangelos was committed around 8.30 on the night of December 28, 2021, in the parking lot of an apartment building in Larnaca, while he was parking his car. “According to the information under investigation, two persons riding a scooter type motorcycle approached him and one of them shot at him, injuring him fatally.”

A legal autopsy performed on the body of the 53-year-old revealed that “his death was caused by internal bleeding as a result of multiple injuries to his body and vital organs caused by a firearm.”

The case is being investigated by TAE Larnaca.
