The first public university in the country is constantly pioneering and paving the way for academic excellence
In addition to the high level of teaching it offers, the University of Cyprus is an internationally recognized research institution. Since its establishment, the University of Cyprus has been going through a continuous successful upward trend with the recent international rankings ranking it in the top 501-600 universities of the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings) and in the first 84 Universities with less than 50 years of life . The QS World University Rankings recently ranked the University of Cyprus 55th in the Emerging Europe and Central Asia Region (EECA Region) ∙ The University of Cyprus is the only top academic institution in the country to be ranked in the QS overall ranking among the top 477 universities in the world. It is also worth noting that the University of Cyprus is the only university in Cyprus that is among the top 601-700 universities internationally according to the Shanghai ranking. Oriented towards internationalization, the University of Cyprus actively participates in the alliance of new universities for the future of Europe – YUFE , which secured funding from the European Commission for the creation of one of the first “European Universities”.
Focusing on knowledge, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and social contribution, the University of Cyprus was founded in 1989 as the first public university in the country and accepted the first undergraduate and postgraduate students in 1992 and 1997 respectively. Despite its few years of operation, it has gained local and international recognition. The Cypriot society has embraced it, while it has built important synergies and bridges of communication with the international scientific community. Many students have set a goal to secure a vibrant position at the University of Cyprus (with a candidate-to-entry ratio of around 10 to 1).
The University of Cyprus even grants scholarships amounting to € 3,000 up to the first five successful students of the Pancyprian Examinations in the majority of its study programs if they choose to study at the University of Cyprus, provided that the access score they have secured is not lower than 18 , 5.
At the same time, the University supports the transition of graduates from the academic to the professional environment by providing appropriate training programs and creating opportunities for temporary employment and / or placement of new scientists and students. Its graduates have been accepted for postgraduate studies at some of the most prestigious universities in the world.
Proof of the prestige of the degree of the University of Cyprus are the findings of a recent research for its graduates who showed that:
– 95.4% work after graduation, while 55.4% worked during their studies.
– The majority of them undertake permanent contract (83.1%) and full time (89.1%).
– 83.4% of graduates stated that their studies were useful for completing their current job duties.
– 30% found work in three months after graduation

Undergraduate Programs
Admission Methods – Undergraduate Studies
The majority of newly admitted students of the University of Cyprus are admitted with the Pancyprian Examinations, organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth.
Other ways of admission to undergraduate programs include admission with International Examinations, Panhellenic Examinations, Special Criteria through Pancyprian Examinations, Transfers and Second Degree.

Terms of study – Undergraduate Studies
The academic year consists of two semesters: the Winter Semester (September-December) and the Spring Semester (January – May). Additional free elective courses and diploma theses are also offered during the Summer Semester (June – July).
Attendance at all departments is mandatory and continuous. The expected time to complete a study program is eight (8) semesters and the maximum time allowed for its completion is twelve (12) semesters with the exception of the Medical School for which the time amounts to 12 and 16 semesters respectively
The study system is based on credits (credits), known as ECTS. A degree is awarded upon successful completion of studies based on a special curriculum, determined by the department (240 ECTS).
Tuition – Undergraduate Studies
There are no tuition fees for Cypriot and European students, while for students from third countries, these amount to € 3,417 per semester.
Postgraduate studies
More than 100 postgraduate programs, at Master and Doctoral level, are offered by the University of Cyprus for the academic year 2021-2022. Candidate evaluation criteria
Recognized university diploma. Previous university training in a suitable subject (academic background) and grade of relevant degrees. Reference Letter. Personal interview and / or written examination (if required by program requirements). Submission of a preliminary research proposal for admission to a doctoral program (if required by the program requirements). Each Department may adopt additional criteria such as knowledge of foreign languages, professional experience, number of publications, etc.
