Three people died when a multi-car train carrying more than 200 passengers derailed in the Russian Far North yesterday, according to a new toll given by the authorities today.
“We found the body of a third person, this is a 16-year-old girl“, the press service of the local branch of the Russian Investigative Committee told the Ria Novosti news agency. Earlier today, the national railway company (RZD) stressed on Telegram that the bodies of two people were found at the scene of the accident and that one passenger was still missing.
The passenger train was traveling from the city of Vorkuta, north of the Arctic Circle, to the port of Novorossiysk, on the Black Sea, in the south of the country. It derailed near the town of Inda in the Komi Republic, a sparsely populated and bitterly cold area.
UPDATE:
At least 43 people have been confirmed injured after at least 9 carriages of a passenger train derailed in Russia's Komi region, according to the SHOT telegram channel.
Most of the injured are expected to fully recover.

“There were 215 passengers on the train. Twenty people were injured, of which three are in a serious condition,” the head of the Komi republic, Vladimir Uyba, said via Telegram yesterday. He said only “the tail” of the train derailed.
RZD stressed today that, according to initial information, the derailment may have been caused by the collapse of the tracks due to heavy rain.

Transport accidents are not uncommon in Russia, especially in the remote and isolated regions of this vast country, which has one of the most extensive railway networks in the world.
