No one was injured in the incident, although the slab left a hole in the ceiling and floor
A family in Naples, Florida, whose house hit by debris that fell to Earth from space is claiming $80,000 from NASA in damages.
A metal cylindrical plate from a cargo pallet detached from the International Space Station in 2021 hit the house of the Otero family on March 8, 2024, while their son Daniel was at home.
The metal cylinder weighed 700 grams and measured approximately 10cm by 4cm.
No one was injured by the incident, although the plate blew a hole in the ceiling and floor.
The US space agency later confirmed that the debris came from its equipment. A portion of the debris remained intact rather than disintegrating after entering Earth's atmosphere, he explained.
NASA has six months to respond to the lawsuit, the Guardian reports.
