Today's meeting at the Presidential Palace regarding the price of electricity is unfortunately ashes in the eyes of consumers for the serious responsibilities of the government in the fields of energy and electricity, says the candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Achilleas Dimitriadis.
In his written statement, Mr. Dimitriadis states that “today's announcement is full of “will” in view of the next presidential elections. His ministers, all this time, have been operating without a strategy to put in place the necessary infrastructure, so that Cyprus can make a timely shift to Green and Sustainable development”.
The failures, as he adds, are specific and among other things he said that the EAC still operates with fuel oil and is accompanied by contradictory government decisions, the natural gas has not come for so many years and until a project is implemented, it will have become unprofitable in the meantime, the development of RES is limited, while the funding from the Emissions Trading System, instead of being used for Green Development, ended up in the state budget together with the additional VAT.
“That is why Cyprus needs a serious strategy for to build the infrastructure, using the money from the Recovery and Resilience Fund. The reduction in prices is not done with “presidential favors”, but with institutions that will work so that the market works properly”.
With plans, he adds, to develop RES in the photovoltaic sector and with supervision and transparency in tenders for the benefit of the consumer we can implement a different strategy for energy and prices.
