In a written statement, AKEL congratulates the new Speaker of Parliament, Annita Dimitriou, on her election, but also leaves tips in relation to the “revelation” of who are in opposition and who are in coalition, with particular emphasis on ELAM .
The announcement as it is:
“We congratulate the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ms. Annita Dimitriou. We wish her good luck in the difficult task she has undertaken. We, as always, will be creative in Parliament for the benefit of our employees, our society and our place.
For the election of the Speaker of Parliament, we sincerely and far from expediencies and hidden agendas tried to have a broader consensus with the opposition parties. In the contacts that took place, without precluding other candidacies, we projected the candidacy of the Secretary General. of the Party as a proposal that gathered all the necessary characteristics that the Speaker of Parliament must have. Parliamentary and political experience, honesty, prestige, moderation, willingness to consent and composition.
Unfortunately, this effort did not succeed, as did the effort undertaken by third parties, a condition for the implementation of which was the achievement of a broad consensus so as not to be perceived as a product of a transaction.
The effort for conciliation and cooperation of the opposition forces, although it did not succeed in the issue of the election of the Speaker of the Parliament, we will continue it.
The election result revealed who is really in the opposition and who is in the coalition. Who supports the government and prefers cooperation with the ruling party. Especially ELAM proves once again the ties it has with DISY and that it operates on all critical issues, such as in the budget, as a crutch of the rulers.
