Actions for Education
The initiativesand actions in the field of Education are an integral part of Alpha Bank's Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, aiming among other things at equal access of children to education and the promotion of financial literacy. In recent years, in particular, the Bank has implemented the educational program “Currency and Transactions: From Yesterday to Today” with the aim of promoting financial literacy and familiarizing students with ancient Greek history. In this context, a specially designed museum case of the Alpha Bank Group's Numismatic Collection travels to high schools and primary schools throughout Cyprus and presents the history of currency and the evolution of transactions in the Greek area, from ancient times to the present day. The Bank also implements the innovative Program “Parents and Children TOGETHER at work”, where working parents of the Bank bring their children to the workplace, so that they become familiar with the Bank and the financial system in general.
At the same time, the Bank also supports the annual “All children with school supplies” campaign of the Pan-Cypriot Volunteer Coordinating Council, offering children from vulnerable families gift vouchers for the purchase of school supplies, while consistently rewarding the achievements of pupils and students. Among the actions undertaken by the Bank is the support, through the donation of toys, of the kindergarten of the “Georgios Markou” School for the Deaf. At the same time, it financially supports the “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center, to meet the needs of school supplies for children hosted in the “Houses of Hope”, the children's shelters of the humanitarian organization where unaccompanied children live with the cooperation of the Social Welfare Services.< /p>
Actions for Sports
Alpha Bank Cyprusundertook to financially support the participation of swimmer Christina Michael, as part of the “Adopt an Athlete” program of the Cyprus Special Olympics Federation, in the Special Olympics World Games held last June in Berlin. Also, the Bank actively participates in sporting events of a charitable nature, such as Marathon races, thus contributing to the promotion of the sporting ideal and noble competition, while strengthening the charitable work of the events.
Actions for Society
In contextof the Corporate Responsibility Program, the Bank maintains a long-term partnership with Europa Donna Cyprus by providing financial support. In addition, it is on the side of the “Wagon of Love” Association, and participates in the annual campaigns “Adopt a family at Easter” and “Adopt a family at Christmas” of the Pan-Cypriot Volunteer Coordinating Council, offering gift vouchers for the purchase of necessary goods. The Bank is also always at the side of the children of the Pediatric Oncology Unit of the Makarios Hospital, offering financial support to the “Little Heroes” Foundation. For World Theater Day, the Bank supported an initiative of the “Georgios Markou” School for the Deaf, offering the children of the School's Primary School the opportunity to attend a theater performance for the first time, with the help of a sign language interpreter. In addition, he offered the School the necessary civil defense equipment, such as first aid bags, fire blankets, etc.
Health Actions
Alpha Bank Cyprushas always stood by the Pancypriot Association of Friends of Kidney Diseases (PSFN) as the main sponsor, supporting the annual Awareness and Prevention Week of Chronic Kidney Disease, but also to the Pancypriot Association for children with cancer and related diseases “One Dream, One Wish” where it organizes every year the “Path of Love”. In addition to the financial support offered by the Bank to associations, its staff actively participates in blood donations and other voluntary actions.
Last Novemberthe Bank participated in the Movember Cyprus campaign for “Men's Health Awareness Month”, in the context of which it held a special event at its headquarters in Nicosia, with the aim of informing and raising awareness among its staff about prostate cancer. For World Rare Diseases Day, the Bank supported the Pancypriot Association of Rare Genetic Diseases “Unique Smiles”, offering the necessary equipment for the purposes of the educational programs it implements at the Multi-Thematic Assessment and Intervention Center.
Actions for the Environment
Timelessenvironmentally conscious, Alpha Bank Cyprus has implemented eco-friendly practices such as recycling PMD power, paper, batteries and ink cartridges and has a process for destroying and recycling unarchived documents in its offices. Also, every year it participates in various ways in WWF's global initiative “Earth Hour”, sending its own message about the urgent need to save energy and protect the environment.
