The 35-year-old was found guilty of murder with intent in a calm state of mind – Pispirigou listened without reacting to the verdict on her guilt
The unanimous guilt of Roula Pispirigou on the charge of murder against her daughter, Georginas, was announced a while ago by the Mixed Jury Court of Athens, after a marathon hearing that lasted about 16 months. The court also found her guilty of the crime of attempted homicide against the child on April 11, 2021, with the prosecutor recommending the imposition of life imprisonment.
In particular, with its decision the court accepted the sentence – “catapult” made in the audience on January 25 by the district attorney Evangelia Spyridonidou, asking for the accused mother's guilt for both of these felonies.
This means that if no mitigating circumstances are recognized for Roula Pispirigou, she will be faced with life and many years in prison. It is recalled that according to the charge of attempted murder, the 35-year-old mother from Patras attempted to take the life of her newborn daughter the first time in the Karamandane Hospital of Patras, as a result of which the child became a quadriplegic.
Subsequently, based on the indictment accepted by the court, the defendant took the life of her child at the “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou” Children's Hospital by administering a large dose of ketamine.
The court unanimously rejected the defendant's pending requests (eg presentation of the resuscitation bag of the Children's ICU, further genetic testing).
The defendant's lawyer, Alexis Kougias, announced that he will not request mitigation for his client.
“I was surprised by the decision, it is a huge judicial scandal and a great miscarriage of justice. I did not expect such a decision, however we must support justice… I am convinced of her innocence and I am sure that we will be justified in the second degree… We did not submit a request for mitigation, deciding together with the accused not to accept any penalty… We continue our fight for the other court” said Mr. Kougias, among other things.
At this time the court is in recess and the proposal of the prosecution on the sentence will follow, which based on the decision can is life and an additional 15 years in prison.
