The Ministry of Energy leaves open the possibility of including persons suffering from multiple sclerosis in the categories of vulnerable electricity customers and in their protection measures, which include the provision of special tariff 08, of the EAC, for the supply of electricity (approximately 20% discount). The government additions are included in a letter from the Minister of Energy Natasa Pileidou to the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Trade and DISY MP Kyriakos Hatzigiannis.
In March, Mr. Hatzigiannis, in a letter to the competent Minister called for an end to discrimination against people with multiple sclerosis. As Mrs. Pileidou points out in her answer, which is held by “F”, the Ministry of Energy is examining the revision of the decision and the decrees concerning vulnerable electricity customers.

According to Ms. Pileidou, the ministry has sent its suggestions to the stakeholders, in order to conduct the necessary consultation on the draft decisions and decrees. An inter-ministerial meeting is expected to take place soon to make relevant decisions. “One of the suggestions of the Ministry of Energy to the co-competent bodies is the inclusion of all people suffering from multiple sclerosis in the categories of vulnerable electricity customers and in their protection measures,” the minister added. At the same time, he notes that after the completion of the consultations and the relevant decisions, the ministry will consult with the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, on how to handle the personal data of the categories that will be included in the vulnerable EAC customers. After the completion of the consultations, the draft decisions and decrees will be sent to the Legal Service for legal inspection.
The DISY MP states that he also contacted the Deputy Minister of Welfare and the President of the EAC, noting that there is intention to solve this chronic problem. Mr. Hatzigiannis also calls on the parties involved to move immediately, so as to close the issue positively for the benefit of this vulnerable group of citizens. Concluding, he calls on them to inform the Parliamentary Trade Committee & nbsp; on the matter.
