Fotiou: Turkey should cooperate to end the tragedy of missing persons

The Government is intensifying its efforts in order to overcome the intransigence and refusal of the occupying power to cooperate in ending the tragedy of the missing persons, which it itself created and maintains with tactics, magnifying the pain and misery of their families, explained the Commissioner of the Presidency , Fotis Fotiou, at a ceremony to decorate the Christmas Tree of the Missing, in Athens.

In his greeting at the ceremony, which took place in Syntagma Square, the Commissioner of the Presidency said that the Government's request is to finally give full and clear answers to all relatives about the disappearance of their loved ones, to note that “these answers should of course to be given by the occupying power, Turkey, which all these years refuses to work honestly and with good will for the clarification of all, regardless of the cases of the missing”.

As Mr. Fotiou said, “it is a inhumane and unnatural situation that invalidates values ​​and principles of civilized humanity”, adding that “we cannot and must not allow this tragedy to continue”.

“The powerful of the earth, the United Nations, the European Union also have a moral obligation to finally take humanitarian initiatives to end the tragedy”, he emphasized.

On behalf of the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, of the state and all, the Commissioner of the Presidency expressed their undivided and sincere support to the families of the missing persons with the assurance that they continue together the sacred struggle for the restoration and respect of the human rights of the last missing person and his family.

< p>Finally, Mr. Fotiou congratulated the Youth of the World Federation of Cypriot Expatriates for their initiative and noted that the decoration of the Christmas tree of missing persons in the various countries where Cypriots of the Diaspora live, symbolizes the support and solidarity of NEPOMAK and everyone in the tragedy that are experienced daily by the relatives of the missing and expresses sincere feelings of love and solidarity to the families being tested.
