The Turkish Cypriot “chamber of industry” (KIBSO) was visited yesterday by the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Cyprus issue, Maria Angela Holgin.

According to an announcement by the “chamber”, Mrs. Holgin met with its President, Ali Kamazioglou, and the members of the board. /p>

As reported by the occupied territories, during the meeting, Mr. Kamagioglou expressed his satisfaction with the visit and stressed that “industrial development in the Turkish Cypriot community started after 1974” and has seen significant progress since 2000s.

“All companies that export through the Green Line Regulation are members of our chamber. 33% of our members make these exports, which proves that their products meet EU standards. However, unfortunately, because our chamber was established after 1974, we are unable to process trades. Even though we are the productive sector, the chamber of commerce is the one that processes them”, said Mr. Kamazioglou.

Stating that trade and the economy are common ground for both sides, he said that this was also the reason why European countries created the EU. Mr. Kamagioglou referred to the “difficulties faced by businesses” that trade through the Regulation of the Green Line, and added that “while crossing to the south, export companies face intimidation practices under various pretexts. There are always problems with the documents. We are not opposed to trade becoming two-way, instead of one-way, as it is now. However, under the existing conditions, I would not agree to a solution either.”

After the meeting, Mrs. Holgin and her delegation, accompanied by a delegation from the “chamber” visited Veli's Ltd. . The director of the company, Levent Veli, took Ms. Holgin and her delegation on a tour of the factory, presenting the production and “exports” that take place through the Green Line Regulation.
