How good is the continuous intake of fiber in our body?

How much fiber do we really need each day?

If there is one thing that improves our diet every day, it is fiber. These complex carbohydrates play an important role in maintaining a healthy, balanced diet because, not only do they help regulate the gut, but they also have other systemic benefits such as improving blood sugar control, heart health and maintaining physical our weight.

Unfortunately, there is an excessive daily intake of fiber, which can cause side effects such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, constipation and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Doctors claim that high levels of fiber can also affect the absorption of certain minerals, such as iron, and certain antioxidants, such as beta-carotene.

How much fiber do we really need each day?

According to Andrew Reynolds, a researcher in the medical department at the University of Otago, we should aim for a certain amount of fiber each day to ensure that we do not exceed the allowable limit. “Most people consume less than 20 grams of fiber a day. “But the study shows that we need to get at least 25-29 grams a day from foods like whole grains, vegetables, legumes and fruits,” says Reynolds.

So the best way to do this is to simply try to include a little fiber in every meal. So with the successive intake of fiber, throughout the day, we will be able to avoid some of the gastrointestinal discomfort that can occur due to reckless intake of fiber.

And do not forget to hydrate! You need to make sure that you drink 2.5 liters of water daily to help you in turn in the proper digestion of your body.
