It is obvious that in Cyprus football is used for a thousand and two reasons, but not for its real reason and role, which is purely the entertainment of the fans. Instead, we have persuaded much of the world to participate, albeit unwittingly, in a staged theater that is unparalleled in Europe.
Football in our country is used by experts for their own interests, which is why slogans are still heard for leftists, rightists, communists and fascists! That is why we fight if the fans of the opposing team refuse to raise the banner “Kyrenia – Return”. As if Kyrenia and its return is not a wish of all of us, as if it is magic to raise or not to raise the banner for return. They turned our stadiums into a popular festival to promote anything other than football.
I told you, funny things, theatricals, which unfortunately in Cyprus take place in the simple masses of the people who are easily deceived. My friends, we should love football and protect it from those who for so many years have tried to take advantage of it for different reasons and we confess that many times they have succeeded.
We have to love football, enjoy it every weekend from the stands (not just on TV). And believe me, Kyrenia and our other occupied areas will not be returned if we raise a banner or not, they will be returned if we put it deep in our hearts and set it as a goal of life…
