The Spaniard shocks with his statements

The ace of Anorthosis, Salva Ferrer, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, gave an interview to a Spanish media.

The Spaniard sent a message of optimism, while talking about his temporary abstinence from football .

Excerpt from his interview on the relevo.com page:

“Two or three days before a match I noticed a lump in my neck. I immediately told myself that I won't be afraid, I'll let a few days pass and if it's still there I'll get tested. Seeing that it didn't go through, I did an ultrasound and thought what could possibly go wrong? I couldn't believe it, I was so unlucky. The results brought the worst news but I got lucky! Of all the parts of my body that were affected, the biggest was the one in my neck and I could see it by palpating it. It's as if my body said to me “I'm going to put it here so you can realize it and detect it early”. When I was diagnosed I couldn't stop wondering why it happened to me and how it could be. I have always been a person who takes care of myself and tries to have good habits. After that thought, I worried about how my family would take it. When I arrived in Spain I told myself “be prepared for the worst and accept all the news you will hear”.

“There are those who know me and others who don't because I have extremely short hair. With my physical therapy if everything goes well, I will have less than two months left and I will be “clean”.

On the continuation of his career: “I don't see even my career is over. I hope to play football for many more years. That's why I fight. Continuing my career will help me a lot because this disease will not leave me with physical consequences, while psychologically it will help me separate many things that before this I would never have learned to manage”.

For Kirian Rodríguez, a football player from Las Palmas who had the same condition but managed to overcome it: “Many times when the symptoms of chemotherapy appear I shout to myself “wake up.'' I know footballers from Las Palmas and when I disclosed my condition, Kyrian sent me videos and messages. It was a very nice move. I tried to see a little how he managed to get back. It is an inspiration. I called him a month ago on one of my bad days when I wasn't feeling well. I don't usually ask for help, but at that moment I felt like I needed someone to help me. Rodriguez without a second thought helped me when I needed him.”

His message to those struggling with such illnesses: “For me, they are an inspiration. I know what it's like to feel like you're living in a gray cloud and you can't get out. They must draw strength from every moment, wherever it comes from, because when the illness passes you learn how strong you are. Such conditions make you an extremely strong person”.
