Limassol: New fleet of 177 new buses, with 35 electric

With a new fleet of 177 new buses, of which 35 are electric, signed on Monday at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Projects, the Limassol Public Passenger Transport Services Concession Agreement.

According to an announcement by the Ministry, the total duration of the Contract is 10 years and the total amount amounts to €146,449,710 including VAT and with the right of the Contracting Authority to extend the services up to 50% for the amount of €51,711,450 including VAT.

As the announcement states, the contract concerns the execution of 7.2 million km compared to the 6.4 million km executed under the previous Concession Agreement, of which 2 million km will be executed with 35 electric buses. The fleet will consist of a total of 177 new buses.

The Agreement was signed, on behalf of the Government, by the Acting Director General of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, Giannis Nicolaidis and, on behalf of the company “Passenger Transport Company of Limassol (EMEL) Ltd”, the Managing Director of the company, Giorgos Kyriakou, in the presence of the Head of the Directorate of Public Passenger Transport, Andreas Nikiforos and representatives of the company and the Ministry.

“With this new Agreement, another step is taken in the implementation of the Government's plan to upgrade Public Passenger Transport. The main objective is to make the choice of using Public Passenger Transport by bus an essential alternative to the mobility needs of the modern citizen, concludes the Ministry's announcement.
