MPs: Wait for it for charges at the port

The trade committee of the parliament extended for fifteen days during today's conference in relation to the much-praised issue of the increases in the charges announced by the management companies in the port of Limassol. In particular, the committee responsible decided that since the dialogue between the Ministry of Transport and the companies is ongoing, it would be better for them to wait for it to end before any discussion on the matter is decided.

The chairman of the parliamentary committee, DISY MP Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, appealed to the stakeholders to reach a solution soon so as not to impose increases at the end of Limassol Port that will have a measurable contribution to inflation and will hit consumers.

He said the commission was at their disposal to help ensure that these increases, which would be passed on to consumers, were not imposed.

AKEL MP Costas Costa stated that the report of the Auditor General for the privatization of the commercial activities of the Port of Limassol dated 5/4/17 is a catapult with data and details about the scandalous procedures that were followed until the signing of the contracts.

He said that he considers unacceptable the fact that the Parliament, for four years now, has been waiting for the Attorney General to examine the report of the Auditor General to see if there are criminal or other responsibilities, as requested by the Audit Committee in May 2018. He added that AKEL expects to see the response of the Attorney General to the relevant letter sent to him by the Secretary General of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou 15 days ago. He reiterated that what happened with the sale of the port of Limassol is a huge scandal for which the responsibilities of the Government are very heavy.
