A written statement was issued by the Deputy Government Spokeswoman Niovi Parisinou, in which she states that “the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis convenes a meeting of the National Council, on March 1, 2022”. Ms. Parisinou notes that, “during the meeting, the President of the Republic will inform the members of the National Council about the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and his initiatives to remove the impasse.”
It is recalled that yesterday he urgently requested briefing by the President of the Republic the general secretary of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou. In a letter to the President of the Republic, the leader of AKEL requested the immediate convening of the National Council, so that there could be consultation and exchange of views with the political leadership on the issue. As Stefanos Stefanou stated in his letter, any information “that we have as a political leadership is derived from various publications made in the media and from various statements by you and the Minister of Foreign Affairs”.
