AKEL's amendment to extend the time by two additional years, i.e. as the end of May 2026.

The Plenary Session of the Parliament approved on Thursday afternoon the n/s approved yesterday by the Ministry for granting a time extension to the financing of the deficits of the Health and Welfare Department for another year, i.e. until 31.5.2025.

Amendment of AKEL to extend the time extension by two additional years, i.e. until the end of May 2026.

It is recalled that the Government emphasized yesterday that the reason why it is considered appropriate to extend the time period for covering the deficits for another year is mainly to ensure the smooth operation of the country's health system, given that OKYpY is one of the most important providers of health services, but also of the fact that the organization was called upon to support the state in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic, with an impact on its smooth operation.

The President of the Health Committee, which urgently discussed the n/s earlier today, Efthymios Diplaros said that the prerequisite for the implementation of the NHS was the administrative and financial autonomy of public hospitals and called on AKEL to say to what extent it agrees with this autonomy.< /p>

He added that DISY, which is accused of allegedly being an opponent of GeSY, implemented the plan while AKEL, which is proud of GeSY, implemented absolutely nothing.

He said that his party is clearly not in favor of the privatization of public hospitals and added that we must support the NHS with actions and not words.

Savia Orfanidou praised the role of state hospitals and emphasized that their autonomy is a key pillar of the NHS. He added that those who fight this autonomy are putting a bomb in the foundations of GeSY. He also mentioned the need to file the organization's business plan, as many development projects are part of the recovery fund.

From AKEL, Giorgos Loukaidis praised the role and contribution of public hospitals during the pandemic. He stated that the upgrading and modernization were not done or were done to a limited extent and unfulfilled responsibilities, as he said, both the previous and the current government bear and the responsibility cannot be transferred to the councils of OKYpY.

He welcomed the fact that DISY says that it is not in favor of the privatization of public hospitals and emphasized that its party is certainly in favor of autonomy and in 2016 it voted for the n/s and did not try to “overturn” anything in the Parliament.

< p>Chrysanthos Savvidis of DIKO said that in difficult times we all turn to public hospitals and their role was also evident in the pandemic. He mentioned that there are still problems such as long queues at TAEP, insufficient infrastructure, specialties and autonomy, adding that the requirement is to submit a business plan.

Panikos Leonidou of DIKO said that public hospitals and any attempt to shrink services, will create huge problems and lead to privatisation. We, he said, will not allow privatization and will grant a one-year extension, but we will also exert pressure for the implementation of the autonomy plan. the public sector with a proper reorganization of public hospitals, with sustainable finances without deficits.

It was questioned why from 2017 when the first n/s was passed until 2019 when the NHS was implemented there was no planning for reorganization. He also said that some are to blame because they wanted the public sector to either shrink or be managed by foreign capital.
