There is great scope for the contribution of technical and vocational education and it is worth investing in it, said the Minister of Education, Prodromos Prodromou, on Friday, during the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the new wing of the Second Technical School of Limassol, by President Anastasiades.

In his greeting, Mr. Prodromou expressed his satisfaction with the school upgrading projects, indicating that “the presence of the President testifies to the general interest of our Government”.

The building program of the Ministry of Education, he continued, “aims to make schools better, to adapt them to modern conditions and of course this is evidenced by the intervention that is taking place here at the Second Technical School of Limassol”. This, he added, is an absolutely necessary upgrade, both of the school's anti-seismic preparedness, but also of adapting the school premises, for the operation of a modern educational institution.

The Minister of Education underlined the “good cooperation of the directorate of technical education, the technical services, but also the directorate and teachers of the school”, stressing that this upgrade “is doubly important, because it is part of a special effort made in the Ministry to to strengthen technical and professional education”.

Saying that “in our country we need more and better adapted technical and professional education”, Prodromos Prodromou said that “with the data of the time, the technological changes we live with every day and the new requirements, we make sure to adapt, but also to strengthen technical education”.

In addition, he noted that in contrast to the general demographic data, where a decrease in the number of Secondary Education students is observed, in the last decade, an increase is recorded in Technical Education.

< p>“It is this tendency that we want to strengthen, not because it is an end in itself, but there is great scope for technical education to contribute and having the recording as a valuable resource, through the new student evaluation system, to make better plans”, he added.

Noting that today the Post-High School Vocational Education and Training Institute is being inaugurated, in the Municipality of Germasogeia, Mr. P Rodromou emphasized that “it is worth investing in technical education, in technology, in professional education and this is the message we want to send today from here”.
