There is bribery and corruption in the occupied territories, say 96% of businessmen, according to a survey – 76% believe that corruption is a “very serious problem”

96% of businessmen in the occupations believe that there is bribery and corruption, while 76% believe that corruption is a “very serious problem”. These figures emerge from research carried out by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and academics Omer Gökcekus and Sertac Sonac.

According to the GTP, the Greek press – which deals extensively with the research – reports that the two academics captured the views of the business world regarding corruption, in their report entitled: “Perception of Corruption in Northern Cyprus: Report on in 2021”, which was prepared using the method used for the Corruption Perceptions Index, published annually by Transparency International. 354 questionnaires were completed, with managers of companies that are members of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce.

According to the survey, the regime scores 28 points, lagging behind the global average of 43 points, and it ranks 140th in terms of corruption out of a total of 180 countries.

Also, according to the survey, 76% believe that bribery is a “very serious problem”. 74% consider that bribery is “very widespread” in the granting and renting of land and buildings belonging to the “state”, 64% gave the same answer in relation to “public” tenders and licensing and 61% in relation to with the incentives.
