A lawsuit against an Indian battery manufacturer called “Tesla Power” was filed by Elon Musk's car company, Tesla, asking a New Delhi court to ban the use of the said trademark as well as compensation.
During a Supreme Court hearing earlier this week, Tesla said the Indian company continues to advertise its products using the 'Tesla Power' trademark. despite the warnings it has received since April 2022.
For its part, the Indian company has maintained that its main business is in the manufacture of batteries and that it has no intention of expanding into the manufacture of electric vehicles.
A representative of “Tesla Power” told Reuters that the company had a presence in India long before Musk's Tesla and that it has received all the necessary government approvals. “We have never claimed to be related to Elon Musk's Tesla,” said Manoj Pahwa.
The court gave the Indian company three weeks to submit its written responses. The case will be heard on May 22.
The case comes after Elon Musk's planned visit to India on April 21, where he was to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was cancelled.
