The unbearable weight of our existence, seen through a constant struggle for survival, is the issue addressed by Maria Ioannou’s new artistic proposal.
Following the endless journey between decay/death and incorruption and continuing the cycle of the silkworm’s life, the artist processes alabaster, cocoon, silkworm, wood and stone, “loading” ; the weight of existence into small-scale sculptures.
As a new reading of the myth of Sisyphus, the exhibition invites us to follow in the footsteps of a constant introspection in search of escape.
