The established award ceremony of the Cyprus Export Award took place today, Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the Presidential Palace. This year 's ceremony was an anniversary as the institution closes 40 years of life. To date, a total of 240 awards have been presented to companies from all sectors of exports of products and services.
The Awards, co-organized by the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (YEEB) and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), were presented by the President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, thus rewarding the exceptional efforts of the Cypriots. of their exports, but also the institution itself which is one of the longest and most successful partnerships between the public and private sector of Cyprus.
The companies that were awarded, by category, are:
Α. Awards for Industrial Products
1. The Award for small industrial units, with a staff of less than 50 people, was awarded to LISCO FOODSTUFF LTD.
2. The Award for industrial units with a staff of more than 50 people, was awarded to the company REMEDICA LTD.
Β. Award for Services
1. In the field of financial services the award was given to CEDAR ROSE INTERNATIONAL SERVICES LTD.
2. MSC SHIPMANAGMENT LTD was awarded in the field of maritime transport and merchant shipping.
3. In the field of telecommunications, informatics and information the award was given to AEON PAYMENT TECHNOLOGIES LTD.
4. The General Service Award was received by NIPD GENETICS PUBLIC LTD.
A special honorary distinction was also awarded to HERMES AIRPORTS, in recognition of its offer during the pandemic, which helped the most to operate the tourism sector, even under adverse conditions.
In his greeting, the President of the Republic stressed that in the current adverse conditions due to the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the contribution of domestic exports to the growth model of the economy acquires even greater value, contributing to economic progress and prosperity of our country. As he noted, as a consequence of the coordinated actions of businessmen and the State and despite the continuing effects of the pandemic on international trade, the upward trend of Cypriot exports continued in 2021. According to the data quoted by the President, in the exports of domestic products “we managed to record an increase of 14% compared to the previous year”, with the sector reaching € 1.44 billion. A corresponding increase of 15%, President Anastasiadis referred to a series of reforms and policies promoted by the Government and the YEEB, with the aim of improving the business environment, the transition businesses in the green economy and the further revitalization of foreign investment, the most important of which are:
– & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; New integrated strategy for attracting companies and talents in Cyprus, which, among other things, includes the transformation of the YEEB Rapid Activation Mechanism into a Companies Facility, the revision of the employment policy of staff from third countries and new tax and other incentives highly trained staff. To date, the Company Facilitation Unit has registered and served over 565 companies of foreign interests in Cyprus.
– & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; Financial incentives to promote innovation and the green economy. In the seven years 2021-2027, the YEEV secured over € 545 million from European funds, as well as from state funds, for financing and implementation of various Grant Schemes that support entrepreneurship, either directly or indirectly. In 2021, projects were announced with a total budget of approximately € 130 million to support businesses and in 2022, projects amounting to € 158 million have been announced or are planned to be announced in the coming months. Cypriot companies.
– & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; Intensify efforts to promote and promote Cypriot products and services, with tools such as the establishment of a visual identity for Cypriot products and the implementation of the first National Action Plan for the Promotion of Cypriot Wine.
Addressing both the business world and the people, the President of the Republic expressed his full understanding of the concerns about the significant increases in basic consumer goods, especially fuel and electricity, as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the consequent consequences of the sanctions. imposed or possibly imposed in Russia. Closing his greeting, the President of the Republic assured that the Government will continue to assist export companies, providing incentives and practical support so that the Cypriot business can continue to succeed for the benefit of Cyprus' prospect of further development. For his part, the President of the CCCI Mr. Christodoulos Agastiniotis stressed that the data prove that “exports are enduring the crisis and we should invest in this sector that donates blood to the Cypriot economy. He called on the Government to continue to support as much as possible the export companies with new innovative incentives, which will help them face the intense competition in the international markets, thus strengthening the competitiveness of their existing products, but also the effort to develop new products that will expand the export potential of Cyprus. Finally, he urged the members of the CCCI to continuously improve the quality of their products and services, to contain production costs and to emphasize new ideas and areas of activity, which they may consider that Cyprus has the potential to develop and promote internationally.
