The visual artist Simoni Filippou conveys a quiet representation of rich nature to the patients of the Oncology Center.
The Wall Gallery continues its work on the exterior of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center. For the fifth year in a row, the exterior of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center is being remodeled with a project by artist and engraver Simoni Filippou. The “Wall Gallery” highlights the external walls of the treatment center and transforms them into a permanent art space, raising awareness about cancer and giving messages of optimism to the Center's patients.
In each exhibition of “The Wall Gallery”, a new, large-scale work is presented, from various art forms, which is the creation of established and emerging Cypriot visual artists. Each project meets the specifications set by a relevant study made for a therapeutic environment and is placed specifically to be visible from the window of the patients' and nurses' wards of the Oncology Center.
Through the visual platform of the Wall Gallery, Simoni Filippou chooses to depict a quiet representation of dense vegetation with diverse birds enjoying the rich foliage of the trees. An image that may not seem original, but it certainly reminds us how admirable nature is. She believes that even a simple landscape has the power to color all the senses and offer refuge to even the smallest visitor.
The study of the project is the result of research by the non-profit organization ABR – Alternative Brains. Rule, with the noble and timeless support of the Bank of Cyprus. The project “The Wall Gallery” is a response to the need to improve the quality of accommodation for the patients of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center in Nicosia. At the same time it is a platform for highlighting and supporting local talented creators.
