The community joined the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company seeking to develop its alternative tourism product
The community council has carried out a series of notable actions to enrich the reference points of the village, such as the restoration of the traditional olive mill, the creation of the art gallery with works by the missing community member Andreas Evripides, as well as the creation of the community excursion area “The Village Orchard “, where the visitor can sit under the shade of the citrus trees, but also taste the fruit of the orchard, as a sign of the community's hospitality. Also, in Agios Theodoros, the home of the Larnaca Outdoor Women's Association is housed in a listed building, which offers experiential workshops as part of the Heartland of Legends initiative of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. From March, the open-air Local Producers' Market of Larnaca will also start, where traditional and perishable products will be available.
Agios Theodoros has the interesting nature trail “To Vrytzii” in an area with a strong geological relief, integrated in the Natura 2000 nature protection network. The 850-meter long linear path passes between gorges and caves and has been awarded a Green Flag at the 2019 Cyprus Green City and Green Community Awards in the Sustainable Tourism category.
Among the ancient monuments of the community is the Venetian Watermill or Hadziatos Watermill. It is a remarkable work of architecture of the past that hides a very interesting folk history. The landscaping works of the surrounding area of the 15th century chapel of Panagia Astathkiotissa, which is located 1.5 kilometers east of the village, on a small hill, have recently been completed. It is a single-aisled arched chapel with frescoes from the 16th century and has been declared an ancient monument.
Among the various projects underway in the community is the restoration of the 7th century church of Agios Athanasios the Pentashkinite, which was built over the tomb of the Saint discovered in 2004 after excavations. The project is expected to be completed around the middle of this year.
The renovation of the square in the core of the village is also under way, as well as the creation of a Multipurpose Center for events and conferences that will host up to 200 people.
The President of ETAP Larnaca Dinos Lefkaritis stated that the inclusion of Agios Theodoros is an important addition in the context of the development of the Larnaca Region as a multidimensional tourist destination. The community, through gentle tourism development and strengthening of the alternative forms of tourism it offers, has prospects to become a valuable piece of the tourist puzzle of Larnaca.
The President of K.S. Agios Theodoros Iakovos Stefanou stated that the community offers the visitor multi-dimensional experiences, such as a tour, gastronomy, experiential workshops and added that the council is working intensively to improve the offered tourist product and infrastructure with the aim of satisfying the needs of the modern visitor, local and stranger.
