The Turkish side spoke to Lut about new

New, creative ideas are needed to overcome the impasse in the Cyprus issue, said to the special envoy of the UN Secretary General Jane Hall Luth the negotiator of the Turkish side Ergun Olgun.

According to reports from the occupied territories, Olgun issued a written statement after the meeting with Ms. Lut and said that the forthcoming five-party meeting and mainly the technical arrangements were discussed.

He said that new ideas are needed, not on the basis of negotiations of so many years that failed and claimed that the reason why no solution was found in the Cyprus issue for more than half a century “is the hegemonic attitude of the Greek Cypriot side”.

He stated that the Turkish Cypriot side does not agree to continue any process on the basis on which the procedures have been based for so many years. Olgun added that he stressed to Ms. Lut that the EU's participation in the informal Geneva meeting is not possible because it would not be able to take a neutral and balanced stance in solidarity with “southern Cyprus”, which is a member of the EU.

He went on to say that the desired stability, peace and cooperation is ensured on the basis of equality of the two sides.

He also said that Ersin Tatar at the Geneva meeting would convey his vision for a sensible win-win with the aim of a fair, equal and sustainable reconciliation on the island.
