George Ioannou, member of the Central Committee of DIKO, was elected Director of his Office by the President of the Democratic Party, Nikolas Papadopoulos. Mr. Ioannou succeeds George Solomou who is a candidate for MP in the province of Kyrenia.
Curriculum vitae
George Ioannou was born in Larnaca in 1985 and comes from the occupied village of Karmi in the province of Kyrenia. He graduated from Apostolos Barnabas High School in Strovolos in 2003 and then completed his military service as an Artillery Sergeant.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in European Studies and International Relations and a Master of Arts in European Law and Politics from the University of Portsmouth. During his studies he actively participated in the student movement as President of the Union of Greek and Cypriot Students of the University of Portsmouth and Organizational Secretary of the Student Group “Renaissance” United Kingdom.
Upon his return to Cyprus, he was employed as a minister in the Youth Organization of the Democratic Party (NEDIK). In the period 2012-2014 he worked as a local associate of the then MEP of the Democratic Party Antigoni Papadopoulou, while from 2015 to 2020 he worked as a communication consultant in a private company.
In the period 2011 – 2016 he was Vice President of the Municipal Youth Council of the Municipality of Strovolos, while in the period 2015 – 2018 he was President of the Nicosia District Committee of NEDIK.
Since 2011 he has been Vice President of the Community Council of Karmi, while since 2018 he has been the Press and Enlightenment Secretary of the Nicosia District Committee, as well as a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Party.
