Tourist arrivals increased by 33% in May in Cyprus

UK arrivals were the main source of tourism for May 2023, accounting for 36.6% of total arrivals< /strong>

Increased by 33.3% were tourist arrivals in May to Cyprus, reaching 420,076, compared to 315,018 in May 2022, according to data published by the Statistical Service on Tuesday.

Arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for May 2023, accounting for 36.6% of total arrivals with 153,797 arrivals. Arrivals from Israel accounted for 8.9% at 37,442, arrivals from Poland 7.3% at 30,835, arrivals from Germany 6.2% at 25,916 and arrivals from Sweden 5.2% with 21,837.

The purpose of travel in May 2023 was vacation for 82.1% of tourists, visiting friends or relatives for 11.3% and business for 6.5%.

It is worth noting that the tourist arrivals are increased compared to 2022 for all months from January to May. Overall, for the period January – May 2023, tourist arrivals reached 1,156,705 compared to 849,058 in the corresponding period of 2022, an increase of 36.2%.

Returns of Cypriot Residents

On the other hand, the trips of Cypriot residents abroad in May 2023 amounted to 126,583 compared to 135,661 in May 2022, marking a decrease of 6.7%.

< p>The main countries from which Cypriots returned in May 2023 were Greece with 31.4% (39,738), the United Kingdom with 10.1% (12,739), Italy with 5.6% (7,098) and Germany with 4% (5,095).

The purpose of travel of Cypriot residents in May 2023 was mainly holidays with a percentage of 64.8%, while professional reasons accounted for 28.5%, studies 3.6% and the other reasons 3.1%.
