Internal control in the ministries, sub-ministries and government services is coming from everywhere, which in some cases is non-existent, with the Internal Audit Supervisor of the Republic Anna Zavou-Christodoulou ringing the alarm bell. Calling, at the same time, on the government to strengthen these control mechanisms in order to identify cases of entanglement, corruption and mismanagement in the public and wider public sector. Cases which, as it turned out, are revealed a posteriori and some completely by accident, without of course excluding the possibility that cases may be covered up if the audit is boring.
The Superintendent of Internal Audit in her letter to the chairman and members of the Legal Committee of the Parliament the day before yesterday emphasizes the enormous importance of the preventive control that the internal control units are called to exercise in the ministries and sub-ministries, which is important for detecting crimes corruption, entanglement and embezzlement of public money. With the exercise of proper precautionary control, which presupposes adequately staffed with appropriate personnel internal control units, the commission of these crimes will be established from the beginning and not a posteriori in the context of controls carried out by the Internal Audit Service and the Audit Office.
