“There are no dilemmas in the collective bodies. On the contrary, they are where they are resolved. We are a very democratic party in its processes. This also applies to the case of the Presidential Elections. Yes, President Anastasiadis took a stand on the issue, saying that the current President of the party, Averof Neophytou, has the first say in the Presidential elections, but the final word is in the Supreme Council, a very large body such as the Party Congress. That is where the party's choices must be made. Even if Averof Neophytou is a candidate, he must pass the DISY Congress. “But what can not be accepted are moves outside the party's procedures,” said Mr. Georgiadis in his initial statement.
Asked specifically how he comments on the intense gossip about the case of the candidacy of Nikos Christodoulidis, Mr. Georgiadis revealed that he has already discussed it in person with Mr. Christodoulidis himself, about two months ago. “I received a clear answer from him that there is no question of an independent candidacy on his part. “Such a thing would be unacceptable and anti-democratic”, stressed Haris Georgiadis, adding that “it is not possible for someone to weigh his data and say, if I go through a Congress I will probably not be elected, so I will bypass and ignore the party's procedures”.
Haris Georgiadis then sent a message with clear recipients:
“Any move to split or insult the democratic processes of the party, can not be accepted and will face the entire DISY faction. We must function institutionally and democratically. No discussion, no talk that anyone can bypass democratic processes by putting forward their own ambitions… To offer our fellow citizens a credible choice that will emerge through democratic processes and not through behind the scenes, accomplished events or divisive movements ».
Mr. Georgiadis then clarified that the private discussion he had with Nikos Christodoulidis, took place in the presence of the President of DISY, Averof Neophytou. “I got a clear and correct answer. This is the right answer, there is no question of circumventing the procedures “, he concluded.
