The Minister congratulated the Municipal Council of Lakatamia for the original, as he described it, initiative to inaugurate parks in the Municipality, giving the names of the former Presidents of the Republic, speaking of a symbolic move that expresses the respect of the entire community of Lakatamia, as well as the Cypriot society, to the work and personality of former Presidents Tassos Papadopoulos, Dimitris Christofias and Glaukos Clerides.
He said that these are “three leading figures of the Cypriot political scene, who worked tirelessly for our country and our people “.
He described Glaukos Clerides as a “great personality, a visionary, a fighter for freedom and democracy”.
“Glaukos Cleridis was distinguished for his exemplary foresight and reliability, and he enjoyed absolute respect in Cyprus and abroad for his moderation. Ideological and far from populism, with a high sense of responsibility, he worked in his long political career for the interest of our country”, he said.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that by opening a new chapter in the political scene of the country, Glaukos Cleridis founded the Democratic Alarm and led the difficult effort to find a solution that would liberate the country and restore the rights of the entire Cypriot people.
“He spearheaded the diplomatic effort that resulted in the inclusion of Cyprus in the great family of the European Union, thus achieving a major strategic goal”, he said.
The Minister said that the citizens of Lakatamia and of the neighboring areas will now have at their disposal a core of greenery, an outdoor recreation and sports area. He also mentioned that the games, the basketball court, the exercise equipment, the games for people with disabilities, as well as the cafeteria that operates on the premises, make up a beautiful environment for children and adults.
