According to AEGEAN, the number of passengers carried in 2023 reached a new record high, reaching 15.5 million, an increase of 3.2 million, or 26% compared to 2022.

In a statement, AEGEAN states that it offered 18.5 million places in 2023, an increase of 3.1 million compared to 2022.

In particular, the airline reports that it offered 11.1 million seats on the foreign network, 2.2 million more than in 2022 and carried 9.2 million passengers, marking an increase of 29% compared to 2022.

Increased by 22%, domestic passenger traffic also appeared, according to AEGEAN, reflecting the positive impact of the increased interconnectivity of the islands through Athens, due to the expansion of the foreign network, but also dynamic recovery of the economy.

He adds that it is important that smaller regional destinations, such as Sitia, Skyros, Naxos, Lemnos had excellent growth potential. Overall, average flight load improved to 83.4% from 79.4% in 2022.

AEGEAN reports that the expansion of its network that exceeded 180 destinations in 49 countries, adding more than 30 new foreign destinations in the summer season, and especially in the winter season, but also the increase in the capacity offered with almost 2.2 million more available foreign positions compared to 2022, “contributed to the strong growth momentum and the success recorded”.

At the same time, it states that the strengthening of the mood and ability of Greeks for leisure trips, combined with the high dynamics of tourist demand throughout the year, contributed to the further strengthening of both the main hub of Athens and Thessaloniki, as well as smaller, less prominent destinations and adds that it has contributed catalytically to the diffusion of the tourist product, but also to the expansion of the tourist season, giving increased options to passengers during the winter months as well.

New destinations, according to AEGEAN, such as Dubai, Innsbruck and Bratislava, but also the maintenance of summer routes (from Athens to Bristol, Malaga, Bilbao, Tallinn, Riga, Tunisia, but also to Barcelona from Thessaloniki) during the winter season, resulted in a 23% increase in seat kilometers, surpassing 20 billion seat kilometers compared to 2022.

The AEGEAN reports that its passenger traffic to and from Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport reached 13 million passengers, also a new record high, showing an increase of 27% compared to 2022 and once again being the main driver of growth of the country's largest airport.

According to AEGEAN's announcement, Dimitris Gerogiannis, CEO of the company said that “2023 was a very good year for AEGEAN and for Greek tourism”.

“We will continue to work consistently to expand the choices of our passengers, to upgrade the quality of the travel experience, but also to facilitate the diffusion of the tourist product, so that the dynamics of the company and the country can be maintained in the new year, despite the challenges”, he concluded.
