A traffic control by members of the Police led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man, suspected of being investigated for burglary and theft cases, this morning, on the Limassol-Nicosia highway.
The 33-year-old, with an expired learner's driver's license of and without being covered by a certificate of insurance, he was driving a car which is declared as immobilized, without a registration plate on the front, and with an expired certificate of fitness – MOT, while he was found positive in a preliminary test for driving under the influence of drugs.
Specifically, around 8.20 on Saturday morning, members of the Ulama for the Prevention of Road Accidents – OPOD, of the Headquarters Traffic Department, who were conducting a traffic control on the Limassol-Nicosia highway, in the Mari section, stopped the 33-year-old driver, whose car did not have a registration plate on the front, for a check. The subsequent check revealed that his car was registered with the Department of Road Transport – TOM, as immobilized, while the vehicle's certificate of suitability expired in January, 2022. At the same time, it was found that the 33-year-old was driving the car without himself being covered by an insurance certificate and while his learner's license expired in March, 2022.< br /> Given that the 33-year-old was showing symptoms of drug use, the members of the OPOD also proceeded to a test for driving under the influence of drugs, with the indication of the preliminary drug test being positive. Samples were taken from the 33-year-old for a final laboratory drug test.
During the traffic control, the members of the Traffic Police found that, against the 33-year-old driver, a judicial arrest warrant had been issued, related to the investigated cases of residential burglary and theft. This is a case of burglary of an apartment in an apartment building in the province of Larnaca, from where a television, worth 250 euros, was stolen, as well as a case of theft of a number of boilers and copper pipes, with a total value of 1,750 euros, which were stolen from the same apartment building. The burglary and theft were committed in March, 2022.
Following evidence that recently emerged in the investigation of the two burglary and theft cases, an arrest warrant was issued for the 33-year-old suspect on October 14. He was arrested by the members of the Traffic Headquarters who stopped him for a check and was taken into custody, for the purposes of investigating the two cases.
The two cases are being investigated by the Kiti Police Station. At the same time, the case of traffic violations allegedly committed by the 33-year-old is being investigated by the Zygio Police Station.
