The challenges for the new year
The president of the Fiscal Council, Michalis Persianis, gave his own stamp on the 2024 budget, which is expected to be voted on Wednesday 20/12 by the Parliament. Initially, Mr. Persianis pointed out that this is a surplus budget, but also in the second reading, a budget that brings to the surface issues that were hidden under the carpet for some time. Asked to comment on what these issues are, he said that they are about the inflexible State spending and the way the public works, which is particularly expensive.
Mr. Persianis made a special reference to the work done by the Department of Taxation characterizing it as excellent, adding that the tax collection ability of the state increases especially for uncollected taxes from previous years. The president of the Fiscal Council also focused on the digitization of the government machine, which is not done and creates multifaceted problems in terms of saving money and time, while he did not fail to connect the problem of corruption with the proportional way the State operates and the wrong procedures.
