Cyprus / Covid19: 64 new cases from 35,729 tests - At 0.18% the positivity rate

Sixty-four new cases of coronavirus from 35,729 disease detection tests by molecular method (PCR) and antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test), the Ministry of Health announced today Tuesday, with 32 patients, of which 9 in serious condition.

Specifically, the Ministry of Health announces that today, June 15, 2021:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death of COVID-19 have been reported to date, leaving a total of 374 deaths.
  • 32 COVID-19 patients are being treated, nine of them in serious condition.
  • A total of 35,729 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
  • 64 (positivity rate: 0.18%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), bringing the total number of cases to 73,311 .

The following are the current results in detail:

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were reported. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease remains 374, of which:

  • 251 men (67%), and
  • 123 women (33%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 32 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which nine are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the nine patients in serious condition, six are intubated, two are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and one to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 35,729 diagnoses made today, 5,788 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 29,941 by the antigen rapid test method, 64 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 12 cases out of 248 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 4 cases of 2,899 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 7 cases from 1,706 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 5 cases from 505 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 430 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 35 cases from 29,622 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.

In addition, the following tests were performed without detecting a case: 

  • 319 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
