Cyprus, priorities of Slovenian Presidency and bilateral relations discussed Adamou - Slovenian Foreign Minister

Cyprus, Famagusta, bilateral relations and priorities of the Slovenian Presidency, in the second half of 2021, was on the agenda of the meeting of the Speaker of the Parliament Adamos Adamos with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia Dr. Anže Logar, who is paying a working visit to Cyprus. Dr. Logar was accompanied by the Ambassador of Slovenia to Nicosia Matjaž Longar.

According to an announcement of the Parliament, during the meeting, the very good level of bilateral relations was reaffirmed and the mutual will was expressed for further strengthening of the cooperation in all sectors and levels. Dr. Adamou expressed his gratitude for the long-standing attitude of Slovenia towards the resolution of the Cyprus problem, in accordance with international law and the relevant UN Resolutions.

The Speaker of the Parliament stigmatized the Turkish provocations in the fenced area of Famagusta, pointing out that such actions contradict the relevant UN Resolutions. He then briefed the Slovenian official on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue, in the light of the ongoing initiative of the OHE Secretary General for the resumption of negotiations.

He stressed that the divisive positions put forward by the Turkish side for a two-state solution, in violation of the UN Resolutions and outside the agreed framework for a solution to the Cyprus problem, make it difficult to try to resolve the problem.

The Slovenian Minister briefed the Speaker of Parliament on Slovenia's priorities for his country taking over the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of this year. Finally, they exchanged views on tackling the pandemic, as well as on European issues of common interest, with particular emphasis on the new European Pact on Immigration and Asylum.
