Disappointment and discontent is expressed by the Cyprus Observatory for the Third Age for the refusal of banks to install Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) in the countryside and in remote areas.

In a statement, he says that this refusal makes the lives of the elderly even more difficult after the closure of co-operatives that existed in large communities and bank branches. “Banks seem not to fully understand the particularities and difficulties faced by the elderly and still do not respond to the demand of rural and mountain residents”, they report, noting that with their attitude the banks are “trapping” the elderly because there is no other way to serve them, even if the banks promote the “cash-back” service which few businesses in these areas implement.

&quot “It is a requirement and not a request of the elderly to the banks” to start giving back to Cyprus society and support vulnerable groups of the population, the Observatory reports.

They note that the elderly demand not only new ATMs but and the creation of branches to serve them, because the majority cannot respond to the digitization of banking transactions.

He asks the state to "oblige" the banks to proceed immediately to meet the demands of the inhabitants of rural and mountainous areas and calls on the Minister of Finance, the House of Representatives, the Central Bank Board, Commissioners and committees that have a direct relationship with the banking system to put pressure on the banks and to find immediate solutions to the problem.
