No particular surprises in relation to the level of deposit rates were the latest figures recently announced by the Central Bank of Cyprus.

The interest rates on deposit products, both for households and businesses, were maintained considerably lower than lending rates, even though a small monthly increase was recorded in some categories.

In more detail, in February the deposit rates for households had the following yields: up to one year 1.98% and over one year and up to two years 1.54%.
Consequently, the average deposit rates for businesses up to one year amounted to 2.53 %. According to the European Central Bank, deposit rates for both businesses and households in Cyprus remain among the lowest in the Eurozone. A similar picture is observed in the Greek banking sector.
