The Democratic Alarm definitively closes the pending issues in Larnaca, after yesterday's announcement of the candidate for mayor Michalis Ppecris, followed today by the announcement of the candidacy of Evangelos Evangelidis for the position of its President of the Provincial Organization of Self-Government of Larnaca.
“The knowledge and experiences I gained during my many years of presence in the local government, as Mayor of Aradippou and as President of the OEDA Kosi, but also through my participation in the citizens of the province of Larnaca and in European organizations, allow me to believe that I can offer”, says, among other things, Mr. Evagelidis.

“For several days now, I have been receiving suggestions from dozens of friends, from all the political arenas and all the municipalities and communities of our province, to stand as a candidate for the position of President of the Provincial Self-Governing Organization of Larnaca.
< p>Having evaluated all the facts as they have been formed lately, I have taken the decision to put before our fellow citizens my independent candidacy for the Presidency of the EOA of Larnaca.
I am standing as a candidate because the reform of local government is an important step and a great challenge, to which we must respond. My position has always been that we need effective local government, with administrative and financial autonomy, equipped with the powers, responsibilities and resources required by its modern role and mission. Today we are faced with this prospect.
The creation of the new institution of Provincial Self-Government Organizations is perhaps the most important change resulting from the reform. The responsibilities they undertake – Licensing and control of developments, Water supply, Sewerage, Waste management – directly affect the quality of life and the level of service of citizens. Their recommendation allows, perhaps for the first time, planning at a provincial level, with all the benefits that this possibility can offer.
I claim the vote of our fellow citizens, because I am convinced that in the new environment that is taking shape, we can achieve much more, for the whole of our province and its people. To plan the development of the province of Larnaca in a unified way, to modernize and upgrade it, to offer all citizens quality services.
As with any big change, in the initial stages there may be problems which we have to face. We will be called upon to make important political decisions for the future of our institution and our province. We cannot afford to fail.

Our goal is common: The sustainable development of the province of Larnaca and the provision, to all our fellow citizens, whether they live in the urban areas or in the rural areas, of quality services and service, at the lowest possible cost.
We will work with prudence and responsibility, but also with dynamism and determination to achieve what our province and its people deserve and deserve. We have to lay solid foundations from the beginning for the whole project to succeed. Citizens have every right to demand quick results”.
