The president of DISY, Annita Dimitriou, gives an answer to the questions of the General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, in a statement.
As the President of the party states, “our differences with AKEL have nothing to do with the elections, but with our deep beliefs in relation to the European Union, the European principles and values themselves”. The Democratic Alarm, the announcement continues, is the political force that pioneered and paved the way for Europe. “AKEL was across the street then. It is across the street today as well”.
DISY itself accuses AKEL of trying to hide its anti-Europeanism, but it doesn't succeed. “Even today they accused the European Union of bringing impoverishment. When it's their own policies that got us there. And we all remember it very well. They have the audacity to talk about democracy and Europe, when in anti-European populism they identify with ELAM. With a more shocking example the recent vote against the Pact for the strict management of immigration”.
“The bet for our country is huge. It is a battle that will decide decisively whether our Cyprus will have a strong voice and a role in Europe at a time when it is needed more than ever”, he points out
Every vote for AKEL is a vote against the European idea, as he claims DISY. “Against the interests of our country. It is an open invitation for even more immigrants. It is a justification of the policy of bankruptcy. And this can be seen from their political actions and not from their words”.
“That is why the Democratic Alarm must win the elections. Because this is in the interest of our Cyprus and the citizens”, concludes the President of DISY.
