Divorced a family because the father was convicted of a drug case - Complaint to the administration

The Ministry of Interior does not miss the opportunity to confirm the harsh face of the state, but also in a completely incomprehensible way. A foreigner convicted of pedophilia, after his release he remains and circulates undisturbed in Cyprus – despite the lack of ties with the Republic of Cyprus – organizing a network with other pedophiles. Another foreigner convicted of drugs, having a wife and child in Cyprus, and after 15 years of permanent residence, was deemed an undesirable immigrant and separated from his family. If one seeks logic in the way of handling the two cases, it is true that it will be very difficult. The only audience is the apathy of the Ministry of Interior, which has lost all contact with reality, and does not respond to letters and phone calls. Note that, according to information, in the case of the pedophile, a letter has been sent to the Ministry of Interior by a competent state service, which has not been answered so far. In the case of the former convict for a drug case, for months no one has responded, neither to letters nor to phone calls from his lawyer.

In the Administration

The Briton who had been convicted of a drug case since 2006 lives permanently in Cyprus with his wife and they have a child who is now 9 years old. The child goes to school and since last August has been living alone with his mother, as the father is prevented from returning to Cyprus and being reunited with his family.

According to the lawyer Pieros Zapounis in a letter to the administration, the father of the child was released from prison in 2018 and in the summer of 2021 he went to Britain to visit his sick parents. When he returned to Cyprus, he was informed at the airport that he was a banned immigrant and sent back on the next flight. Letters were sent to the Ministry of Interior and were never answered, and no official was found to answer the dozens of phone calls.

Psychological problems

The letter to the administration states that “the members of the foreigner's family, and especially the minor child of just 9 years old, who is looking for his father, was caused by the uncertainty of reconnection with his father, a serious psychological problem and is monitored by child psychologist and, due to his severe psychological decline, is receiving psychotherapeutic drugs. In order to avoid the worst, we ask you from your position to take all the appropriate actions on your part in order to immediately solve the problem that the family is facing “.

Four months of waiting and even the Ministry of Interior… shows no signs of awakening, or minimal sensitivity for a purely humanitarian case.
