Episodic arrest for drugs - They went red and caused a car accident

At around 10.50 last night, members of the Police signaled to a car moving on Makariou Avenue in Limassol to stop for inspection.

The driver of the vehicle developed speed in order to escape and after violating a red traffic light at the junction of Makarios with Jan Simpelius, he collided with a car driven by a 26-year-old man.

Immediately after the collision, the three occupants of the first car got out of it and tried to escape on foot. They were stopped by the members of the Police and an inspection carried out revealed that the driver of the vehicle in question was 20 years old, with 20-year-olds and 21-year-olds as passengers. During their opposition, the 20-year-old was allegedly seen throwing on the ground a nylon bag which, as it was found after receiving it, contained dry hemp plant material weighing approximately 26 grams.

The above were transferred to the offices of YKAN Limassol where during the physical search that was carried out, a small amount of dry cannabis plant material was found in the possession of the second 20-year-old and the 21-year-old. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on a warrant while the other two were arrested and after being charged in writing were released.

The 26-year-old driver of the second vehicle is being treated for precautionary reasons in a private clinic in Limassol, while the 20-year-old arrested was transported to the Limassol General Hospital where he is being treated for precautionary reasons under guard.

YKAN (Limassol branch) in collaboration with the Limassol Traffic Police continue the examinations.
