Eurostat: Inflation in Cyprus at -0.8%

The annual inflation rate of the euro area was 0.9% in January 2021, from -0.3% in December. A year earlier, the figure was 1.4%, according to data released today by Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office. In Cyprus it remained stable at -0.8%.

According to Eurostat, the annual inflation of the European Union was 1.2% in January 2021, from 0.3% in December. A year earlier, the rate was 1.7%. In Cyprus, inflation remained stable at -0.8% for January, while it was 0.7% a year earlier.

The lowest annual percentages were recorded in Greece (-2.4%), Slovenia (-0.9%) and Cyprus (-0.8%). The highest annual rates were recorded in Poland (3.6%), Hungary (2.9%) and the Czech Republic (2.2%).

Compared to December, annual inflation fell in three Member States, remained stable at six and rose to eighteen. In January, the highest contribution to the annual inflation rate in the euro area came from services (+0.65 percentage points), followed by non-energy industrial goods (+0.37), food, alcohol and tobacco (+0.30) and energy (-0.41).
