The need – especially the elderly – to immediately make the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine, points out the head of the German company BioNTech, Ugur Sahin.
In an interview with the newspaper “Bild”, he explains why the third dose of the vaccine is important and how much it protects against the Delta mutation.
“About the seventh month after the second dose of the Covid vaccine, we can get coronavirus,” he said, adding that the booster dose comes to fill the gap and is effective against the Delta mutation.
The statements of the head of BioNTech, come at a time when Pfizer, with which he is collaborating for the preparation of a coronavirus vaccine, announced that he has the pill against covid ready.
Commenting on the findings of the clinical trials, the head of BioNTech said that when someone is infected with a coronavirus and is fully vaccinated, they will not become seriously ill.
“In addition,” Sahin said, “we have study data showing that a booster dose restores the protection of the vaccine (six months after the second dose). This also applies to the Delta virus mutation.
For this reason, he says, the elderly should urgently take the booster dose, six months after the second dose of the vaccine.
